MUSIC MINISTRY

“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all you lands; Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before him with a joyful song.” Psalm 100: 1-2

MUSIC IN THE CHURCH

Music is an integral part of the celebration Holy Qurbana and the catholic tradition of prayer. The Second Vatican Council’s Instruction on Music in the Liturgy, Musicam Sacram (MS), mentions five specific ministerial functions of music in the liturgy.

“Through music in the liturgy:

  1. Prayer is given a more graceful expression,
  2. The mystery of the liturgy, with its hierarchical and community nature, is more openly shown,
  3. The unity of hearts is more profoundly achieved by the union of voices,
  4. Minds are more easily raised to heavenly things by the beauty of the liturgy, and
  5. The whole celebration more clearly prefigures the heavenly liturgy.” (MS 5)
OUR MISSION

One cannot find anything more religious and more joyful in sacred celebrations than a whole congregation expressing its faith and devotion in song (MS 16).

Our mission is to achieve the true purpose of the sacred music as written in the Musicam Sacram “which is the glory of God and the sanctification of the faithful” (MS 4). We support and advance the mission of the parish to enable a “full, active and conscious participation” in the Qurbana. We make every effort to reach out with sacred music to draw people of all ages into prayer through the rich and diverse music of the Catholic tradition.

Participation in the music ministry requires a commitment to musical leadership. It also requires a pleasant singing voice, dedication to practice and determination to participate when scheduled for Mass or a special celebration. If you would like to participate or have any questions, please reach out to the parish priest or one of the coordinators.
