St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Church : Marian Devotion
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
During the month of May, Syro Malabar Catholics had a long history of honoring of our Blessed Mother through “vanakkamasa prarthankal” or Marian Devotions including praying the rosary. Also, during this pandemic, the United States and Canadian Catholic Bishop Conferences is renewing the consecration of United States and Canada to Mary on May 1, 2020. We together as a parish community will also be consecrating our church and I request each of you to consecrate your family and you individually to Mary. I suggest you create a special altar for Mary, by decorating Mary’s icon or statute. Together you may say these devotion prayers daily during your family prayers. The following are the two devotional prayers I am asking you to practice.
To Give Your Life Totally to Christ Through Mary: A 33-day Consecration Prayer – Starting Tuesday, April 28, 2020
Total Consecration to Jesus as set forth by St. Louis Marie de Montfort is a beautiful consecration prayer to increase your spirituality and ability to truly serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Consecration consists of a 33-day of prayerful preparation followed by the actual act of consecration itself. We will start Tuesday, April 28 and complete the consecration on 33rd day – Sunday, May 31, 2020. Mary’s life was set aside for the sole purpose of serving our Lord. By following her example, we, too, can completely give ourselves to Christ in a fundamental way that consecrates us to Him. We give our lives to Him in service and love. I will be sending each day’s prayer to you daily through WhatsApp group.
Vanakkamasa Prarthanakal (Month of May: Marian Devotion) – Starting Friday, May 1, 2020
May is the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary! As the Scripture beautifully states of Our blessed Mother, “all generations will call me blessed” (Luke 1:48). She is our mother and Jesus Our Lord is pleased and delighted that we honor His mother with hymns, prayers, and various other tributes to recognize her motherly care for each of us and the Church. I will send the daily vanakkamasa prarthanakal through the WhatsApp group.
I hope that all of you are well. I am praying daily for you and your family. These are difficult times, full of fear and uncertainty. More than ever, we need to be strong in our faith and remember that the Lord is with us during the storm, and He has power over the wind and the waves that threatens our lives. Also, I want to thank you for all your concern and prayers for one another during this time. We can unite spiritually during this time of stay-at-home and social distancing closer through prayer and concern for the well-being of each other.
