St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Church : Pothuyogam (General Body) – December 1 Sunday, 2019
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
As you and your family comes together to celebrate Thanksgiving this Thursday, I wish each of you blessings and a Happy Thanksgiving! Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from Heaven. When we look around the world, we know how much God blessed each one of us.
Our Parish is continually growing spiritually and in membership because of God’s grace, your prayers and generosity. Our Parish is limited in space and capacity and we need to start thinking about expansion. We have a great opportunity to purchase a house in our neighborhood, which is adjacent to our property. This house is the second house to the same side and street of the rectory. The house’s backyard is adjacent to our Volleyball court. On Sunday, November 24, 2019 Parish Council was convened and discussed and the council agreed that this is worth looking at. Parish Council recommended that this be discussed with the General Body. To reiterate, we haven’t made any decision to purchase this building.
This Sunday, December 1, 2019 after the Malayalam Holy Qurbana, I am convening the “Pothuyogam” or General Body to discuss whether we should pursue this opportunity. I discussed this with our Bishop and he had asked me to call the General Body this Sunday, because we need to take a decision soon. I request each and every one of you to come and participate in the Pothuyogam.
(Parishioners have the opportunity to evaluate the property on Saturday and Sunday before the Pothuyogam)
This Thanksgiving, I am thankful to God for each of you! It is a joy and a privilege to be your brother in Christ and serve as your Vicar. Together, may our service to the Lord “overflow in many thanksgivings to God” (2 Corinthians 9:12)!
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
